Fire & ice

The local news just posted this on Facebook: ”100 degrees — new record high for Denver, beating out records from 1990 and 1936.”  Seriously?   (No wonder I don’t feel much like knitting or crocheting today.)

On June 6 we were buried in ice-cold hail …

A local tree trimming service did some dead-tree removal and overgrowth pruning in our yard this morning and were amazed at the hail damage to the trees and plants.  I have been raking up debris for two weeks now, and at last count there were 16 large trash bags full of shreds & shingle shards collected from throughout the yard.  Seriously?

Since it’s 100 degrees outside in normally comfortable-climate Colorado, I am spending more time indoors.  This Bunny-Ear Blankie (for charity) was completed today.  I had discovered, hidden in stash, several balls of a vintage yarn (Phentex “Fingering Tricot Fin”) and tried crocheting with it on a size H hook.  It was perfect for this design.  For simplicity I decided to finish it off with a basic shell border rather than the original “bunny-ear” border:

Earlier this week DD and her fiance became ”aunt and uncle” and showed us photos of them holding the sweet newborn girl, so I guess that’s why baby things are currently in mind (and I suppose since they both now have a touch of “baby fever” that means some day DH and I are likely to become grandparents.)  Seriously?

If and when the time comes, there are plenty of knit and crochet designs to choose from.  Here are just a few of the favorites from Designs by KN:

Lacy Baby Hat & Scalloped Lace Baby Socks

Rippling Waves Baby Blanket

Cheery Cotton Baby Shoes

Block-stitch Baby Blanket

Pretty Little Baby Hat

Droolie Bib

There are a lot more project ideas and photos in the DBKN collection on Ravelry  for all seasons and climates … be they hot as fire or cold as ice.  Seriously.

The weather is enough to drive anyone over the edge! I’m in New England and it’s so unpredictable. It makes me appreciate that old saying, “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute!” Nice baby blankets, especially like the rippling waves, you can feel the movement in it!
